Privacy Policy — MyOffGridHome

Effective date: 2025-09-29

1. Introduction

Welcome to MyOffGridHome (http://discoveroffgrid.com). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our website and services. We currently operate from Australia and our contact email is Info@discoveroffgrid.com. We intend to incorporate a company in Estonia and will update this policy with our official company name and address once formed.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly and information collected automatically:

  • Information you provide directly: name, optional surname, email address, profile information, comments, and any content you post in the Community Space.
  • Information collected automatically (Device and Connection Data): IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, pages visited, timestamps, and other technical data. This is recorded in server logs and by analytics tools.
  • Cookies and tracking: cookies and similar technologies used for site functionality, analytics and (if you opt in) marketing.
  • Media: if you upload images, avoid embedding location (EXIF) data; others may be able to download and extract such data.

3. How we use your information

We use personal data to:

  • Create and manage user accounts and Community Space access.
  • Provide, operate and maintain the website and services.
  • Improve and personalize your experience.
  • Analyze site usage (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Communicate with you (support, notices).
  • Ensure security and detect/prevent fraud.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. Comments

When visitors leave comments we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check for a profile image; Gravatar’s privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After comment approval your profile picture (if any) is visible with your comment.

5. Cookies

We set cookies to support site functionality (login, session, screen preferences) and to remember comment form details if you opt in. Typical cookie durations:

  • Comment form cookies: 1 year.
  • Login cookies: 2 days (or 2 weeks if “Remember Me” selected).
  • Screen options cookies: 1 year.
  • Post-edit cookie: 1 day.

For EU/EEA visitors we will present a cookie consent tool that allows you to opt in or opt out of non-essential cookies (analytics, marketing). You can also control cookies via your browser settings.

6. Embedded content

Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, posts). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the third-party site. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and track interactions.

7. Who we share your data with

We share data with service providers who process data on our behalf, including:

  • Hostinger (hosting, email marketing) — servers located in Lithuania (EEA).
  • Google Analytics (analytics).
  • Paddle (planned payment processor) for payments and subscriptions. We require processors to implement appropriate security and privacy safeguards and will put Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) in place.

We may also disclose data to comply with law enforcement requests and to protect our legal rights.

8. Where your data is sent / international transfers

Your data is stored on servers in Lithuania (Hostinger). Some processors may be located outside the EEA (for example, Australia or the US). Where transfers outside the EEA occur, we will rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) or ensure the processor provides an adequate level of protection.

9. Retention

  • Comments and their metadata: retained indefinitely unless you delete them.
  • Account data: retained while your account exists and for a reasonable period afterward for backups, dispute resolution or legal obligations.
  • Analytics: retained per our analytics provider settings and aggregated for improvement purposes.

We will publish more specific retention periods as systems are finalized.

10. Your rights

If you are an EU/EEA resident you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability and the right to withdraw consent. Australians have rights under the Privacy Act (APPs) where applicable. To exercise any rights or make a complaint, contact Info@discoveroffgrid.com. You can also lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (EU) or the OAIC (Australia).

11. Data security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data (encryption in transit, access controls). No internet system is completely secure — we will notify affected users and authorities where required by law in the event of a personal data breach.

12. Children

The Service is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18. If we become aware we have, we will delete it.

13. Automated decision-making

We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. The “Effective date” will change when we do. Significant changes will be notified via site notice or email where practicable.
